School break until Jan 3rd, 2013

Hope you and your loved ones are enjoying a much deserved break over the holidays. This is just a quick reminder to all that the school is closed for its annual break, classes will resume on Thursday Jan 3rd.

Saturday Jan 21st AM and Noon classes moved

Dear students and parents,

Please be advised the first two classes on Saturday, Jan 21st will be combined into a single class in the afternoon (3:00 – 4:30 pm) in order to accommodate a lion dance performance / field trip at a seniors’ retirement home.

Some of the students will be coming with us, it will be a big help and definitely will be appreciated by the seniors that live there! It’s a fun way for us to celebrate the Chinese New Year with them.

If you can’t make the 3pm class, don’t worry – come and talk to us about making up the class sometime over the next few weeks, or we can adjust your fees the following month. Thanks for your understanding!

Interested in helping out at one of the upcoming lion dance performances? We can always use help with transportation, music, etc. Let us know!

Our January newsletter is out!

Dear students and parents, we have just sent out our newsletter for the month. If you did not receive this or have not yet given us your email address, please let Sifu Carmen know and we’ll send that over to you.

Coming in June 2012: Our 10 year anniversary

This is a special year for us. It’s amazing how time flies; it’s hard to believe that we will have been around for 10 years as of June 28th this year.

There are some of you that have been with us every step of the way, since those early days and even before when we were still teaching at Grandmaster Wong Ha’s school back on Jackson Street near Chinatown. We want to thank every one of you for sticking it out with us over the years. 🙂

Not to sound cheesy, but it really does only feel like a couple of years ago when we first flicked on the lights in our Richmond school and said to ourselves, “Wow, this is a really small space, but it’s ours!” Actually, it was more like “Hey, why is the toilet in that walk-in fridge?” but that’s a story for another day.

This year, we would like to celebrate with a dinner and performance night sometime in June. Unlike the annual Founder’s Day banquet in August, we’d like to see each and every one of our students do a performance. It’s a great way to build up self confidence, and show some school pride!

We’ll have more information on this over the coming weeks. If you are interested in helping out to organize the event, or have any ideas for where or how we can host this celebration night, please let us know.

Upcoming Lion Dance Performances – Jan 2012

Chinese New Year is coming early this year — it’ll be on Monday, January 23rd. It’s always a busy time of year of course for kungfu schools, with lots of lion dance performances.

Here’s what’s coming up for us:

  • Wednesday, Jan 18th @ 6:00 pm in Vancouver
  • Saturday, Jan 21st @ 12:30 pm in Burnaby
  • Tuesday, Jan 24th – 3 performances from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm in Burnaby and North Vancouver
  • Wednesday, Jan 25th @ 6:00 pm in Vancouver
  • Sunday, Jan 29th @ 6:00 pm in Richmond

Our lion dance team is already preparing for these performances, but we’d like to ask if there are any other students that would like to help out as well. Please let Sifu Hali or Sifu Carmen know if you are interested in joining us at any of these performances — we can always use extra hands!

Winter break at the school – Dec 24-31

Hello students,

Though we really love seeing you guys 🙂 Sifu Hali and I would like to take a break at the end of December, between the 24th and 31st. This way, we all have a little break to recharge our batteries, and spend some quality time with family. We hope you will be doing the same!

This means that our schedule will be as follows, for those of you that come to class once a week:

  • Tues – Dec 6, 13, 20 (3 classes only)
  • Thurs – Dec 8, 15, 22 (3 classes only)
  • Sat – Dec 3, 10, 17 (3 classes only)

Kids, please let your parents know as the fees will be for only the three classes in December.

Of course you are welcome to do more classes by dropping in on one of the other days for an extra practice — just let Sifu Hali or Sifu Carmen know.

Updated class time for Thursdays

Please note as of Oct 1st, our Thursday kids class will be moving from the 4pm time to 5:30 (ending at 7:00pm).
